Mr W T Garrett, licensee of the Kings Head, Loughton, for 35 years was re-elected chairman of the Epping branch of the Essex Protection Society (1949) ***

Mr W T Garratt, licensee and former county cricketer, has been at the Kings Head since 1912, and although nearly seventy seven years of age is still extremely active. Bill played for Essex as an amateur in 1899 & 1900. He was awarded his county cap after his second game against Warwickshire, because of a fine innings played when the county looked like losing the game. A serious illness prevented him from playing the following season, but he captained Surrey 2nd XI in 1902. As a native of Dulwich, he had a qualification by birth to play for his county. Bill continued to play for Loughton C C until he was sixty five years of age, captaining the North of Thames Licensed Victuallers Eleven for fifteen years.

His first wife died in 1938, but he married his present wife in 1939, and she has been a real partner, being born into the trade herself. Despite the bombs during the War (a 126 lb phosphorous bomb dropped on their coffee room), they have remained cheerful and happy in their vocation. - Black Eagle 1952

I get hundreds of emails every day, fortunately most 'spam mails' are deleted by my mail scan settings. The final emails are delivered to various email addresses, and replying to these are not always successful. If you do not hear from me in a timely fashion, please feel free to email again, I do not mind! This is a pure PUBS history site, I doubt if I know where the PUBS are NOW, but try the site for where they were a hundred years ago, again enjoy!
