The Cat, 220 Whitecross Street, St Luke parish of London

A listing of historical London public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in St Luke parish of London, Middlesex - now in East London. The St Luke parish of London  listing uses information from census, Trade Directories and History to add licensees, bar staff, Lodgers and Visitors.

The following entries are in this format:

Year/Publican or other Resident/Relationship to Head and or Occupation/Age/Where Born/Source.

With an overlay of a map of Upper Whitecross St (the 1862 Motco map) with house numbers and pub names and from various directories I have worked out where all the Pubs including the Cat were.  The Cat is mentioned in two Old Bailey trials in the early 1800s.  IThe numbers started on the East side at Chiswell Street with 66; went North to Old Street to 150 and then carried on South back to Beech St with 220 where the Cat was, just before Beech St.
When the Street was renumbered; Whitecross and Upper Whitecross St were combined, and the numbering started at the south end, odd on one side and even on the other.  That is how the Cat became 57.

I get hundreds of emails every day, fortunately most 'spam mails' are deleted by my mail scan settings. The final emails are delivered to various email addresses, and replying to these are not always successful. If you do not hear from me in a timely fashion, please feel free to email again, I do not mind! This is a pure PUBS history site, I doubt if I know where the PUBS are NOW, but try the site for where they were a hundred years ago, again enjoy!
